## Providers in detail

### Compass Group

**Compass leads benchmark amid results, contracts and operational investment**

Compass Group ranked 1st of 6 by average monthly share of coverage (30.2%) in the UK Facilities Management & Contract Catering benchmark for 2026 year to date, with 268 mentions and a net tone of +79.

Compass led the January-to-September benchmark with a 30.2% average monthly share and 29.7% of pooled tracked-company mentions, ranking first on both measures. The slightly higher monthly average reflects stronger performance when each month was weighted equally, while the pooled measure gave more weight to months with more tracked-company mentions. Its monthly rank moved from joint third in January to first in February and March, second in April, first in May and second from June to September. Early coverage combined Company of Cooks’ £2.5m Royal Aeronautical Society contract with the Heathrow staff-catering win, the completed Vermaat acquisition and a revised net-zero trajectory. March and April broadened the agenda through Levy’s £100m Jockey Club partnership, Company of Cooks’ Dynamic Earth contract, Restaurant Associates’ RHS Wisley and RAF Museum London wins, and new training and leadership programmes. Compass returned to first place in May as reporting concentrated heavily on first-half results, including 9% revenue growth, a 12% rise in operating profit and upgraded full-year guidance. June and July brought a more varied profile spanning Robin Mills’ retirement, expansion of reusable packaging, integrated facilities-management contracts, the Derby Cuisine Centre and third-quarter trading. August produced the period’s lowest volume and a 22.7% share, although articles included Gather & Gather’s £37m education contracts and plans for Levy’s permanent Old Trafford fan zone. September volume recovered sharply to 35, while share edged up to 23.0% as coverage of the other providers expanded; stories included Chartwells’ £75m East Sussex contract and 14forty’s Kia Oval win. Across the window, the profile moved between corporate results and a broad operating story built around contracts, venues, workforce development, sustainability and production capacity.

### Sodexo

**Sodexo’s contract-led spring gave way to a quieter summer**

Sodexo ranked 3rd of 6 by average monthly share of coverage (19.5%) in the UK Facilities Management & Contract Catering benchmark for 2026 year to date, with 175 mentions and a net tone of +48.

Across January to September, Sodexo recorded 175 mentions and a 19.4% pooled share of tracked-company mentions, while its 19.5% average monthly share also ranked third. It opened in second place at 19.0% in January before slipping to third at 16.9% in February. Share then rose to 28.6% and second place in March, followed by the reporting-period high of 29.9% and first place in April. Independent editorial stories during this stronger spring phase included the Kitchen Works hospital rollout, a £4m Leyland Trucks renewal and extensions at HM Naval Base Portsmouth, the Scottish Parliament and Kent Cricket. April’s coverage also brought a more challenging corporate strand, with lower first-half revenue, profit and margin pressure reported alongside Entegra’s acquisition of Prestige Purchasing. Sodexo was second at 21.2% in May, when the George Watson’s College win and Wallace Collection renewal sat alongside workforce recognition and training initiatives. Its share fell to 12.5% and third place in June, although stories included the Stoke diagnostics-centre contract, the Grow with Sodexo Academy and the Stop Hunger anniversary campaign. July brought 19 mentions but a 14.1% share and fourth place as the tracked-company total expanded; contemporaneous reporting covered the Meta contract, the 2030 growth plan and raised full-year guidance, as well as failures at HMP Forest Bank. August produced only seven mentions and a 15.9% share, with scrutiny of Lowdham Grange and Altcourse prominent alongside the Alliance in Partnership school-food relaunch and Hampden hospitality. September recovered to 27 mentions and a 17.8% share, remaining third as the TfL expansion, government framework appointment, Janet Wigley’s arrival and WasteWatch results broadened the agenda. Taken together, the period established a strong contract and operational-development profile, but one repeatedly qualified by trading pressure and scrutiny of prisons operated by Sodexo during the periods examined.

**Mitie bid reshapes OCS’s year-to-date media profile**

OCS ranked 4th of 6 by average monthly share of coverage (9.9%) in the UK Facilities Management & Contract Catering benchmark for 2026 year to date, with 98 mentions and a net tone of +49.

OCS ranked fourth across January to September on both average monthly share and pooled share, recording 98 mentions, a 9.9% average monthly share and 10.9% of tracked-company mentions across the full window. The higher pooled figure reflects the greater weight of high-volume months, particularly July, than the measure that gives every month equal weight. Its position varied markedly, moving from fifth in January to sixth in February and March, fourth in May, sixth in June and third in July before ranking fourth in August and September. Early reporting combined the Morrisons and Tesco security contracts with the launch of OCS Energy Services. March’s acquisition of Top Security added technology-led security capabilities in Ireland, while April brought an expanded British Land partnership and a data-centre electrical-substation contract. May broadened the account through the City Group Security acquisition, Matt Kent’s engineering appointment and executive commentary on OCS’s technical-services strategy. In July, 29 of 34 mentions concerned M&A, alongside extensive reporting of the agreed £3.1bn acquisition of Mitie, and OCS reached a 25.2% share and third place. August’s lower volume included the Virgin Atlantic aircraft-cleaning mobilisation and support for the government’s Youth Guarantee. September’s 15.1% share accompanied reporting on the CMA process and Mitie shareholder approval, alongside a University of Suffolk degree-apprenticeship programme and industrial-relations disputes in Scotland. Across the period, OCS’s profile moved from contracts and capability-building towards transformative acquisition coverage, with workforce investment and labour disputes becoming more prominent later in the window.

### Aramark UK

**Entier dispute and stadium investment frame Aramark UK’s uneven visibility**

Aramark UK ranked 5th of 6 by average monthly share of coverage (6.3%) in the UK Facilities Management & Contract Catering benchmark for 2026 year to date, with 52 mentions and a net tone of −4.

Across January to September, Aramark UK recorded 52 mentions and ranked sixth by both its 6.3% average monthly share and 5.8% pooled share of tracked-company mentions. Its higher average monthly share reflects equal weighting for each month, while the pooled measure gives greater weight to months with more tracked-company coverage. January delivered its strongest rank, joint third, and an 18.0% share, alongside the CMA’s order to divest Entier and Wilson Vale’s St Cross College contract win. In February, share fell to 3.9% and rank to fifth; articles covered criticism of Alton Towers’ food prices and the resort’s statement that it reviewed prices with Aramark in response to rising costs. March returned to 6.7% in fifth place as articles followed Aramark’s unsuccessful attempt to secure more time to appeal the Entier decision. April was broadly level at 6.9% and joint fifth with OCS, with Wilson Vale’s St John’s Beaumont School award and Aramark’s new role at Principality Stadium broadening the agenda beyond the merger dispute. May fell to 2.0% and sixth despite coverage of Wilson Vale’s partnership with The Gut Health Clinic. June recovered to 5.8% and fifth, with stories including permission to contest the Entier deadline ruling and Aramark UK’s reported £175 million of social value. July narrowed to 1.5% in fifth place, with an Entier results story and a separate contextual reference in wider reporting on first-time outsourcing. August rose to 9.1% while remaining fifth, accompanied by the Principality Stadium checkout-free store launch and results reporting that identified the UK as a contributor to international growth. September returned to sixth at 2.6%, as total tracked-company mentions expanded sharply, while stories covered the five-year Principality Stadium partnership, SSAFA support and a former Aramark executive’s move to Sodexo.

## Methodology

- **Share of coverage**: an organisation's mentions divided by all mentions of the organisations tracked in the same sector that month, in UK earned media. It is the central measure of media visibility in Omniscan benchmarks. "Average monthly share" is the mean of the monthly shares across the reporting period.
- **Mention**: one article that covers an organisation, classified as positive, neutral or negative in tone. Articles are deduplicated, and an organisation's own websites and passing sponsorship name-checks are excluded, so only earned media counts.
- **Net tone**: positive mentions minus negative mentions, as a percentage of all mentions (range −100 to +100).
- **Themes**: every article is assigned to one of the sector's editorial themes. A theme index above 1 means the organisation is covered on that theme more than its peers are; below 1 means less.
- **Calculation**: every figure is computed directly from the classified articles; narrative summaries are checked against those figures.
- **Sources**: UK national and international, trade and specialist, regional and local, and aggregator and syndication earned media.
